Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair

Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair is like other laparoscopic technique. A small incision (cut) is inserted just below the navel area to operate hernia. In this process, the abdomen portion is inflated with the air to see abdominal organs clearly by surgeon. A laparoscope is a thin, light weight scope that is inserted through the small incision. The other small instruments are also inserted through other incisions to repair hernia in the lower abdomen. A mesh is then placed to protect the abdomen wall.

Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair has three techniques to perform the procedure. They are totally extraperitoneal (TEP) repair, Transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) repair and Intraperitoneal onlay mesh (IPOM) repair.
A laparoscopic technique repairs the recurrent hernia very easily and faster. It is also possible to found all possible and existing hernia at the time of operation and operate them in one go. Laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernia reduces postoperative pain, recovers faster, and eliminate the need of narcotics. But it also has increased cost, and has prolonged operation time. It also has higher rates of complications and recurrence, if the surgeon has low experience to operate the repair.
There are some risk associated with the surgery such as developing of blood clots, severe urinary problems, scar tissue formation, injury to the testicle, infection from the mesh or stitches, and recurrence of the hernia. Laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernia is much expensive than open surgery as it costs much more due to laparoscopic technology and have longer operation time.
Punya Hospital, Bangalore has a best Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair setup. The hospital team provides best laparoscopic treatment and care to the patients. The hospital also follows all the clinical and ethical standards during the surgery. The hospital has a positive work environment for its doctors, employees and patients.

Does A Lump in Your Stomach Troubles You ?

An Epigastric Hernia occurs when a weakness in the abdominal muscle allows the tissues of the abdomen to protrude through the muscle. It is developed between the sternum (chest bone) and the umbilicus (belly button). If it is left untreated, that might lead to serious complications.

Causes of Epigastric Hernia

Sometimes a child is born with an epigastric hernia. Epigastric hernia in adults is caused due to abdominal pressure. It can happen to women during pregnancy. Other factors, which lead to the development of epigastric hernias are heavy work, straining, coughing, sports, obesity etc

When a fat is pinched in the abdominal wall, a severe sharp pain will be realized other symptoms are
  • Nausea and vomiting indicates the severity of such condition
  • High fever due to the blood flow in the herniated part
  • Skin discoloration
  • Abdominal bulge
  • Blood clots
  • Scarring
  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Lump development
  • Injuries in the abdominal structures
A hernia may be left without surgery but the patient has to sustain the pain and discomfort on a continuous basis. The best solution for hernia is surgery which will relieve the patient from crucial pain.

Surgical Procedure by the Laparoscopic method:
The surgery is better performed by a laparoscopic method for a large hernia with a peritoneal sac. Four small incisions are made in the abdomen. Through one incision, a cannula is inserted into the vein to reach the surgical site. A Laparoscope is pushed into this cannula. The laparoscopic instrument contains a camera with a light source attached at the end of the flexible tube. The surgery and the involved organs are registered as videos. The videos are transmitted to the monitor that is kept in front of the surgeon where he can view a huge image of the surgical procedure. With the help of videos and controlling the surgical instruments remotely, the procedure is carried out successfully. The protruding intestine and other parts of the body are placed in its original position and covered with a synthetic mesh to avoid falling and the mesh is stapled to its new position. The inserted instruments are removed carefully from the incisions and the open incisions are sutured.
Less pain, no heavy bleeding, no blood transfusion, and high-end safety are experienced through such procedure. This procedure is not suitable for those who have already gone through abdominal surgeries, who are obese, and patients with high blood pressure.
